irony

Every year, we join in with our neighbourhood clean-up day. It only takes an hour or so, and a full garbage bag at the end gives me a moderate sense of accomplishment. I take any sense of accomplishment wherever I can get it, and if I can get it by walking around outside on a sunny Saturday, that's even better.

I was assigned to an alley that I had never seen before, despite having walked by it countless times. How is that possible? I don't know. Maybe because at a young age, I developed the art of reading while walking, and I just don't look up sometimes. The clean-up day powers-that-be provide garbage bags, recycling bags and gloves. All I had to do was show up.

Moment of irony, as I picked up shingles, bottles, wrappers, paper, endless cigarette butts, and other trash ...

Found a glove on the ground from last year's clean-up day.
