dinner in Rivne

Supper time. Yum.

If you ever see something like this on the side of the road while driving through Ukraine...

... stop there. Trust me.

The first thing you will notice is the smell of a real wood fire. At about the same time, you stare in all directions, trying to take in all that you are seeing, while a very sweet young lady attempts to direct you to a table.

(Even the inside of the washroom is worth a pic. Mind you, that latch had seen better days, and I very nearly spent the remainder of the vacation trapped in there.)

There was bread and smoletz. Followed by solyanka - soup which includes not only meat, but also a slice of lemon and an olive or two.

Followed by vyreniki (what Canadians call perogies) with potatoes, mushrooms and a bit of bacon. Sour cream for everything. And cranberry compote.

Make sure you go in with good friends who will not only order for you, but will also solve the woes of the world with you.

And when all four of you have finished with a satisfied sigh, continue on to Lviv, pointing out stork nests - a sign of prosperity - in each town along the way.
