I really love Saul Korman.
He doesn't know me. I don't know him. I just know his voice on the radio. He owns a men's clothing store on the Danforth in the Big City Down the Road.
Can I tell you why I love him?
He's just so darn generous with his advertising. He's a community kind of guy. Each time he gets on the radio to ramble on about his store, he takes significant time to talk about his wonderful staff - by name - or to mention the restaurant down the street, where "you must try (insert menu item)" even if you don't visit his store at all.
Imagine that! Paying for advertising time, and then using it to promote the businesses around you!
I'd like to meet Saul Korman, personally. I can't see Spike buying clothes from his store, but I'd like to just shake the guy's hand. He and Honest Ed Mirvish seem like they're cut from the same cloth, and I really felt a sense of loss when Ed died a few years ago.
I'll probably never meet Saul Korman, but perhaps I should take a page from his way of life. Maybe blog a bit about the neighbourhood businesses around me ... whaddaya think?
